The Cape fox is a species of fox that inhabit the sub-Saharan African desert. It is characterised by its large ears. The Cape fox’s large ears and excellent hearing help it detect prey and predators – they hunt with their ears pointed towards the ground.

These clever fox's use their specialized ears to locate termites, dung beetles, and other insects, which make up most of their diet. When it hears prey moving, the Cape fox rapidly digs to reach it.

Their ears are so sharp they can detect the sound of harvesting termites chewing on short grasses and larvae chewing their way out of an underground dung beetle ball.
